A Misunderstanding Between Friends

I'm starting to think that text messaging is just an all around terrible way to communicate with anyone. It seems to me that people take a text message the wrong way more often than not and it causes a lot of misunderstandings.

My current issue:

I received an invite to celebrate my friends birthday out at a restaurant. Unfortunately the chosen night was St. Patrick's day and my family always gets together for dinner on St. Patrick's day. I let my friend know that the chosen night was not good for me and I was under the impression that we were going to reschedule going to that particular restaurant until another night.

After St. Patrick's day dinner with the family I went home and logged into my Facebook. To my surprise one of the news posts was from my friend during the early afternoon saying that he would be going out to the restaurant that night. I was initially upset because I felt left out, so I texted my friend to ask why they had gone without me. I was told that the decision was "spur of the moment" because they had nothing else to do.

The next day I heard from another friend that the plan to go to the restaurant had never changed, not even after I couldn't go and there had been a decision made to tell me it was just a last minute thing so I wouldn't get upset. This did upset me because I didn't understand why anyone would need to tell me a story vs. telling me the truth.

I texted my friend and said I was upset about the fact that it seemed like they were keeping something from me.

Yesterday I tried to explain to my friend why I was upset and feeling the way I had. I wasn't actually upset anymore, but I wanted him to understand how I had been feeling and why.

I was told I was being ridiculous and that my friend had a more important issue to deal with and wanted to drop the subject...

I get that my friend might not have understood why I was feeling the way I did, but that doesn't make what I was feeling ridiculous and it doesn't mean my feelings should be dismissed just because he didn't agree with them.
